Hello Blockers!

Strike Commander boxartFor episode 27, we talk about the 1993 Origin Systems flight sim, Strike Commander.

Before that though, the news:

In light of the closure of LucasArts, Raven software has released the source code for their two great Star Wars games, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy.

The Two Guys SpaceVenture released a short alpha preview video.

I sat in on an episode of the Elder Geek Game Club where we talked about the indie adventure game, Primordia.

We then chat about Strike Commander. Genre, story, gameplay, tech focus, dev story, all the usual stuff.

  1. Great podcast!! Strike Commander wasn’t on my radar at all, but your podcast is nonetheless really interesting and engaging, always a treat! Sorry to hear that it doesn’t hold up, but guess at least a couple of the games you cover are bound to fail on that count!

Definitely looking forward to your thoughts on SimCity! As a fan of the older games, I’ve stayed away from the 2013 installment after I got really negative feedback from reviewers I’ve come to rely on.

PS. Think you left out a few words in the description: “The Two Guys SpaceVenture released a short alpha preview video.” Maybe a “from Andromeda” is warranted, at the very least? 😉 This is also true for the description in iTunes.

    • Yup, the iTunes description matches the one I put here. Kind of a matter of semantics, the project has been referred two as “Spaceventure”, “The Two Guys Spaceventure” and “The Two Guys From Andromeda Spaceventure”, I just got lazy typing up the notes 🙂

Sadly, not all games hold up, but remember the conclusion I come to at the end of the show is really just my opinion. Other people may adore the game!

  2. Similar to Eleima, I had never heard of Strike Commander, but your show on it was fun and insightful nonetheless :). Curious if there are any similar style flight sims that you would recommend (in the modern time period I mean as opposed to Red Baron or Wing Commander)?

Last, great job over on Game Club, your input there was definitely more than serviceable 😉

    Thanks for the show Joe!
