Episode 1 – Sam & Max Hit the Road
March 29, 2012Hello Upper Memory Blockers!
In our first official episode we cover the 1993 LucasArts adventure game Sam & Max Hit the Road. First off, I introduce myself for those that didn’t get a chance to listen to episode 0. Then we talk a bit about the adventure game genre in general. We get into a fun in-depth discussion about the game itself, including some clips, a review of the plot, fun facts and stories from its development and much more.
In our tech focus segment, we discuss the SCUMM game engine that was used to build Sam & Max Hit the Road and other LucasArts adventure games.

by billybob476 March 31, 2012 at 2:27 amSorry, I’m kinda necroposting, but I just stumbled upon your podcast (and for the life of me, can’t remember how), and I’m absolutely loving it so far! Certainly looking forward to listening to the rest and catching up!! It’ll be a treat to take a trip down memory lane and learn some new stuff (the “developer story” segment was particularly interesting, I didn’t know all that stuff about the SCUMM engine). Minor caveat, you seem to have an idiosyncrasy and keep saying “you know” (and if you’ve already addressed that, feel free to utterly ignore me). Definitely looking forward to the rest!

Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying the show, hopefully over the last 20 eps I’ve started saying “you know” a little bit less 🙂
by Joe February 15, 2013 at 6:27 amI had a couple of chances to play this game back in the day and never got around to it (though I was aware of it’s ‘classic’ status). Now that Lucasarts is releasing games through GOG, I snatched up a copy of this during the last sale and can’t wait to get into it.
The newer three Telltale games have been pretty well reviewed, but I’ll stick with the classic release for now.
by Jonathan October 26, 2015 at 10:19 pmDefinitely a classic worth checking out! Probably why I covered it first!
